From the creators of Les Miserables comes Miss. Saigon, a multi-award winning Broadway show. It has been announced at Celebrate the Arts that next year’s 2018-19 Winter musical would be Miss.Saigon. Many might wonder what this tragic story’s plot is. It all starts during the Vietnam war in Saigon in the 1970s. The Engineer from her burnt village saved a 17-year-old girl named Kim during the war. She suddenly became one of the new recruited bar girls at the Engineer’s pub, Dreamland. At this time, all the bar girls were longing to find freedom and the only possible way to do was leaving Vietnam and going to America, which was achievable if they could marry an American. Luckily, romance sparks between Kim and an American GI, Chris Scott. However, after three years, it’s apparent that Chris and Kim have drifted apart. Chris has left Kim in Vietnam and now lives in America. Now waiting, Kim is still in love with Chris, and she is hoping for Chris to return and save her from her hell. Will Chris ever come to save his loving Kim? Will Kim ever find her freedom? Will Kim ever be happy? Kim’s tragic story will soon be presented live on stage.

Some people have opinions on how inappropriate Miss.Saigon is for a high school musical. It has received much criticism for what some have perceived as racist and sexist topics in the plot and its portrayal of Asians and women in general. However, I think it’s a tremendous musical regarding the times during the Vietnam War. We can never escape from the past, these topics did occur, and I believe it’s essential to learn how to prevent these traumatic subjects from happening again.
